mell lawrence architects, concrete studio (2003)

a highlight from last spring was touring the grounds of this impeccably manicured estate in west austin.  the bunker-esque studio shown above is one of several buildings in the mostly wooded compound.  while the main house and several other follies evoke a spirit of victorian whimsy, this monolithic studio designed by mell lawrence architects is clearly a step in another direction.  yet, the monolithic structure, crystalline in shape like the prada aoyama, manages to nestle into its surrounding quiet nicely.  for more consult this weekly dose of architecture page.
