this is old news. but its also a good reminder that sometimes common sense prevails. it also happens to concern another presenter, mauricio rocha, at the latitudes symposium (though rocha presented a year ago at latitudes 3). in the beginning of january la escuela de artes plastica in oaxaca began demolishing mauricio rocha’s design, which had only just been completed . accusations had been flung around regarding the structural stability of the rammed earth walls. rumors have it the architect and a former administrator at the school did not get along. whatever the case, demolition was halted after mauricio and the administration discussed the integrity of the structure. it would be a shame to watch a beautiful piece of architecture disappear and along with the millions of dollars of public funds which went into its construction.
